Within reading the first few pages of Hatchet, I knew I was going to enjoy the book. Hatchet was a story about bravery, courage, and strength. I enjoyed reading this great novel by Gary Paulsen.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The story begins when Brian, a thirteen-year-old boy, is traveling on an airplane. Brian is from the city, and is traveling to Canada to visit his Father. The setting is in the Canadian wilderness and is most important because Brian’s adventure would have been impossible in a city. Brian was very upset about his parents separation, but was excited to be visiting his father. However â€Å"The Secret,† as Brian refers to it, is always in the back of his mind. Brian has seen his mother with another man. He wants desperately to tell his father, but knows his father would be crushed. I think that this situation is something that could happen in real life. Brian is totally distraught. If I were in his place, I would be also. But instead of worrying about telling my father, I think I would be worrying about confronting my mother with the situation. I would feel I needed to stop the affair before my father did find out.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Brian’s trip is very unexpectedly interrupted, when the plane’s pilot has a heart attack. Brian tries to continue the flight, with help from men over the radio. Unfortunately, the radio dies, and the plane runs out of gas. I think this part of the story, is very unrealistic. If the plane were supposed to make it all the way to the destination, why would it suddenly run out of gas? Also, why would the radios suddenly become broken? I realize this was the whole point of the novel but it doesn’t seem realistic.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Brian then spends exactly Fifty-four days by an L-shaped lake. He faces many conflicts. He is put in a situation like the â€Å"Survivor† television show. He needs to find a way to survive, unlike on the show, by himself. He needed protection from the weather, so he built shelter. He was hungry, so he hunted for food. He discovered how to catch fish, rabbit, and discovered bushes of nuts. He also had a bad encount er with â€Å"Poison berries,† as he called them, which made his stomach sick. Brian also had encounters with wild animals, such as, a porcupine, and a moose. Brian needed warmth, so he made fire, without any matches.

The Social Cry In Planet of the Apes After watching The Planet of the Apes, everyone seemed to leave the movie with a message in mind. Be it the controversial subject matter of Science vs. Religion, animal cruelty, or the cries of the extremeness of war and nuclear weapons. The makers of this film clearly felt the importance of illustrating to the viewers how unjust this society of â€Å"superior† apes were towards the humans. It allows the viewer to leave the movie thinking about our own society, and the similarities in how certain people have been severely mistreated here in America. There are many controversial subject matters in this movie. Another matter is that the humans were enslaved in the movie; a major reference to the slavery and cruelty towards the people of color around that time. The filmmakers were sure to make these messages subtle, but also to make sure that they were heard. The filmmakers made the movie so that it was mirroring our own present day environment: the simmering racism and the need for equality. Making a movie gives the filmmakers the opportunity to be heard. It was clear that they wanted the viewer to be engrossed with how the Apes treated the humans, which would be the common reaction. Also, they made it a point to get across the problem of racism by showing an exaggerated example, where the humans were treated more like animals. The filmmakers wanted their audience to be as revolted as possible by this. The movie would affect people in different ways. The people, who don’t get the message, (hard to miss) would just think of the movie as an entertaining two hours. The others who do notice it would be more aware of the discrimination around them, or realize that they have been discriminating against others and maybe want to change their ways. Technological roles have been dominated by men since its existence, and the women in technology are a minority. Historically, women have been underrepresented in these fields. Because of this inequality, women are faced to overcome the male-dominated environment that is the tech world. This paper will be explaining the reasoning for stereotypes of females in STEM. Are women scarce in the technological world because of the media portrayal of women? What is the exact reason for this lack of females in this industry? Film Review A Raisin in the Sun Essay When I watched the film, A Raisin in the Sun during class, I was actually very interested and overall had a great experience. The movie was very easy to comprehend and the film gave different perspectives of the family which I thought was done very effectively. I felt bad for the grandma because she had to decide what she was going to do with the money. Beneatha and Walter both wanted the money to do different things for the future. I was once put in that situation and it was very difficult to make the right choice without getting one person upset. Throughout the film, there are many themes and one of them is family is always first. I also laughed when the main character, Walter was P. Diddy, a rapper and a celebrity. I consider family in being a main theme because there were many obstacles they had to get through. Walter wanted the money because he wanted to brighten the future for his family and make more money so they can live more comfortably When Walter will get mad and leave to drink, his wife, kids, and Mama would be very scared for him and wanted to keep him safe. Mama always loved Walter no matter what he did and always had her arms open for her family. At the very end of the film, the family is united and very happy that they stuck in there. The film was located and shot in Chicago. It was a time where it was very tough for African Americans and segregation still existed from the African Americans and the whites. The outfits of the everyday people in the film was much different than the everyday people you see today. The family had to decide if they wanted to move in a white area neighborhood. At the end of the film, Walter decides to move. I wanted to know what happened when they moved in but the movie ended when they agreed to move in. I thought that the acting and scenario was very believable. The only part I did not think was believable was when they agreed to move in the white are neighborhood. If i were them, I would have not moved in because I would feel like they would get killed. The characters in the movie all played an important role and everyone was clear and easy to understand what their roles were in the film. I felt like Mama was an outstanding character because she was the one who had to make the biggest decision in the movie and that was to decide what they were going to do with the $10,000 they had. She was a very good actress and I actually felt the sympathy for her and what she was going through. Her role was very believable and liked how she was very loving. I did not really like the character of Beneatha because she did not really do much other than her wanting the money so she is able to go to school and become a doctor. I did not like how her role was to go after men and go out with them a lot. I think the most outstanding theme was the very end of the film when Walter agreed to move and how the family were reunited and all happy together. The strong areas of the film was the scenario and the plot. I really enjoyed the film and it was very interesting. It always kept me on my toes and wanted to find out the ending and what they were going to do as a family and the money. I was very surprised that they ended up moving even though I do not agree with their decision. I strongly felt that the production was very effective and got the main theme out to the audience. Anyone who watched A Raisin in the Sun would not have trouble understanding what is going on.

Time management professionals say that stress is usually the result of poor time management. Effective time management has to be the foundation of any successful and productive life. There are 1,440 minutes in a day. If one is employed full-time, then about nine hours (540 minutes) of the day is spent at the office and commuting. The time left in the evening for family and self is very limited. Some companies allow their employees to telecommute, in which the companys network is accessed from the employees home, usually via a high-speed or broadband connection. Telecommuting increases available time for family and self by eliminating the employees commute. Along with telecommuting, some companies offer Flex-Time. Flex-Time allows the work schedule to be configured differently from the typical Monday through Friday, 9am-to-5pm workweek. One will still work a total of 40 hours that week only one day may be shorter than the rest. Flex-Time is basically a flexible work schedule. Flex-time and telecommuting are examples of Flexible Work Options (FWO). FWOs allow employees the opportunity to find time for their families and selves by introducing a time management element that bends. Along with the changing nature of office-hours via telecommuting and Flex-Time, there is a need for employees to be more efficient at work. Companies are implementing the virtual office which partly entails telecommuting but with the main focus being a more efficient, yet mobile workforce. With the virtual office, traditional office setups such as permanent workspace and a personal telephone become a thing of the past. An employee can either telecommute from home or come to the office. Once at the office, they can check out a computer and a cordless phone and proceed to log into the companys network from any number of places in the building. Employees can log in from the cafeteria, conference rooms or their favorite place in the building. Once they log in, a central computer routes phone calls to the cordless phone that was checked out at the beginning of the day. Other companies are making the office more accessible by having satellite offices, wherein employees can work from any number of offices spread throughout their particular city or region. Literally, the employees can be anywhere and still perform their work duties. To the customers or clients they do business with, their location is seamless. Companies like IBM and Apple have reported increases in productivity and morale since they went to the virtual office format. Corporations are finding creative ways to yield more efficiency from their associates while giving them more time for family and personal life. When adults with a family and a career decide to continue their education, the demands on their time and energy increase dramatically. Along with re-entering college come the requirements of attending class, studying, homework and team research projects. If one has to attend class for four hours a week, spend an additional 8 hours for homework and studying, and three hours on team research then he or she has to somehow find an additional 15 hours in a week to perform those duties.
